As we approach of the end of the school year, we look back at all the wonderful events surrounding the LFNY's 75th Anniversary celebration. Our alumni were full of enthusiasm as we gathered for these many occasions. On September 23rd, 2010 the 75th Anniversary kick-off event in New York City boasted over 900 people from the school community with close to 200 alumni. A few weeks later, the Paris event held on October 7th welcomed 450 people, comprised mostly of alumni and alumni parents. Both were exceptional events.
Smaller events organized by class captains such as Christine Auclair, Alessandra Kelmas de Bozzo and Stephany Morrell were organized throughout the year as well. The 75th Anniversary Speakers’ Series lectures took place at the school to the delight of its audiences. The last in the series comprised a panel of four alums, Chanez Baali (’02), Susan Fales-Hill (’80), Laurent Lantieri (’80) and Ronald Grelsamer (’71) along with alumna moderator, Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson (’89) on the topic “How the Lycee Influenced My Life”. For those of you who didn’t make it to this fascinating event and want to find out more about what our accomplished alums are doing, Chanez Baali, lead singer of Tramponaline and co-founder of the production company sputnyc has a profile and interview in this newsletter (see “Chanez Baali Rocks”).
We also want to let you get to know our Alumni Board. The Alumni Board works hard to shepherd our community and keep us all connected. In this newsletter, we introduce you to one of our Alumni Board members from the class of 1998, Daphné Haddock.
With the new formation of the French Friends of the LFNY, a giving structure for those of us who live outside of the United States, we spotlight Paris. This time we profile alumna Laura Gerchik, so we can get to know our alumni community across the Atlantic, which is more vital and active than ever.
Finally, two alumni, Christopher Atamian and Joelle Reilly are highlighted for their fundraising efforts to remember classmates no longer with us. Please read on to find out more about these very special commemorative projects.
As you can see the alumni community has been busy and as we come to the years close we welcome our newly minted alums: the graduating class of 2011. This graduating class is very special as it is the 75th Anniversary class as well as the last LFNY class our beloved headmaster, Yves Thézé, will see graduate. Mr. Thézé will be leaving the school to head Collège du Léman Sàrl in Swtzerland. We welcome our new headmaster, Sean Lynch, an American who has been living in Paris for many years and was a headmaster of a school of which he was himself an alum. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Lynch to our Alumni Community and getting to know him well!
