Meet Alumni Board Member Daphné Haddock

Daphné Haddock

We are very pleased to include in this issue a brand new feature: Meet The Alumni Board. We feel it is important to give the Lycée’s alumni an opportunity to know who is on the board and to learn a little bit about them. Alumni Board Members are your representatives to the Lycée; they are your voice, and we encourage you to contact them with ideas for getting involved and questions about alumni events and activities at the Lycée. So, without further ado, I would like to introduce Alumni Board Member Daphné Haddock ('98).

Current profession:

I currently work in finance in fixed income credit sales for an investment bank.

Attended the Lycée from: 1986 to 1998

I attended the Lycée from 1986 until 1993 and then came back to the Lycée for Terminale ES. After being in boarding school for 4 years in France and Canada, I came back to the Lycée for my French baccalaureate.

Most interesting memory of the Lycée:

The most interesting and funnest memory was in 6e. Mr. Lumbrozo, who was my music teacher at the Lycée would write, organize and direct a musical play every year. A few of my classmates and I were all casted for a part in the play that year -French Toast. After spending our weekdays together at school, we had fun spending week-ends rehearsing our lines, music , and dance parts and preparing for the event at the Alliance Française in New York. To this day I still remember some of those songs and Mr. Lumbrozo is still a music teacher at the Lycée....

Board Member since:

I have been a Board Member since 2007

Motivation for becoming an Alumni Board member:

The Lycée Français is a very unique school as it is bilingual and multicultural with more then 50 nationalities among the students. My years at the Lycée, along with my teachers and friends have become an important part of who I am. I wanted to play an ongoing role at the Lycée, and help bring together alumni, alumni parents, and alumni that wish to send their children to the Lycée. The Lycée has just celebrated it's 75th Anniversary.....

How do think alumni can help with initiatives of the board?

I think the alumni can help with initiatives of the board by supporting all the community events that the alumni board organizes. The Lycée Gala which is hosted every year, is a hallmark event in the school's fundraising calendar. The 2010 Gala was attended by 950 guests and raised $1.5m for the Lycée. The Spring Fair is also a great event organized every year and promotes the cultural diversity of the Lycée. The spring fair aims to bring the Lycée community together and has international booths, regional foods, games and activities for students and is a great way for students and alumni to connect and "re-connect".

What do you think of the new Annual Alumni Fund being developed at the Lycée?

For anyone who is not familiar with it, the Alumni Annual Fund is a subsection of the Annual Fund. Through this new fund the alumni coordinator will aim to implement more diverse alumni programming and activities. We hope to engage and involve more alumni through this new project.

Your personal message to alumni:

Through events that have been hosted or organized by the alumni board I have been able to reconnect with old classmates and friends. I believe it is important to foster and support such a unique organization that was a part of our lives for so many formative years...
