The Lycée 75th Anniversary Speaker Series

Is it possible that France is losing its edge as the global leader of haute cuisine and fine wine? Is this even fathomable? To find out, attend the Lycée's panel discussion "Food and Wine: Is France's Leadership in Jeopardy?" To adequately address this issue, the 75th Anniversary Committee and the Cultural Center have assembled a panel of leading professionals in the culinary and wine industries. The panel will include Eric Ripert, Chef of Le Bernardin; Mathilde Thomas, founder of Caudalie; Yves Ronin, CEO of Markcom and Brandmaker; Sophie Schyler-Thierry, owner of Chateau Kirwan in Margaux. The panel will be moderated by Lycée alumnus Donald Zilkha (Class of '68), who organizes high-end dinners in New York for food and wine lovers. This exciting discussion is the second installment of the 75th Anniversary Speaker Series and will take place Thursday January 27th at 6:30PM in the Lycée auditorium. The event is free of charge and will be preceded by a reception.

A Brief Recap: The first installment of the Speaker Series was held on Thursday October 28, 2010. The topic was Human Rights in a Global World: Challenges in Times of Emergency. All who attended the event were treated to a lively and thought-provoking discussion from panelists Radhika Coomaraswamy, Special Representative of the Secretary-general for Children and Armed Conflict; Gérard Araud, Ambassador, Permanent Representative from France to the United Nations; and Olivier Bercault, Consultant for the United Nations and non-governmental organizations including Human Rights Watch.

A Look Ahead: The must-see finale of the 75th Anniversary Speaker Series will be April 14, 2011. It will focus on alumni and How the Lycée Experience Shaped My Life. As is becoming evident from the intellectual and cultural capital showcased at the first two series, this one will certainly leave the Lycée community buzzing. More details are to come in the next issue.
